Honeywell International Inc.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Supervisor 2021 - Present
- Create, manage, and execute mechanical and electrical project plans for technology development, with direct reports in Houston and Pittsburgh, on breakthrough technology warehouse automation. Project stakeholders include the Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Honeywell.
- A proven track record of delivering innovative, reliable, cost-effective solutions to achieve strategic portfolio and revenue growth while surpassing client expectations.
- Aggressively pushing through obstacles to make the impossible possible, building new prototypes on schedule using the zero-to- one methodology. Created designs that have led to ~ $12 MM in funding for 2024 and continued innovation collaboration with external and internal customers for initial pilots.
- Mentoring other engineers regarding design, assembly, manufacturing, and professional growth.
- Designs have led to over 30 internal disclosures, the first internal stages of patent applications.
- Design mechanical components, subassemblies, and top-level assemblies using dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y-14.5, including electric motors, linear actuators, sheet metal enclosures, etc.
Wellbore Integrity Solutions
Senior Mechanical Engineer 2020 - 2021
- Designed, developed, and tested a plug and abandonment single trip bottom hole assembly, including a Hydraulic Spear, Mechanical / Hydraulic Packer, Flow Through Pipe Cutter, and Bridge Plug, which saves end-users valuable rig time and reduces HSE exposure to rig crew with less handling at the surface.
- Designed assembly tools and test fixtures to verify tool functionality.
- Wrote assembly, disassembly, testing, and qualification procedures of tools for field use.
National Oilwell Varco
Design Engineer IV 2013 – 2020
- Designed and developed hundreds of individual components and dozens of complete assemblies from concept through product-level field testing and commercialization (design proposal, feasibility of design or application, specifications, product design, engineering calculations, cost estimation, component selection, vendor interaction, detailed functionality analysis, prototype manufacturing, lab testing & field testing, internal manuals & external technical literature). Direct monthly revenue from my designs ~ $3 MM.
- Designed and patented best-in-class drilling safety joint assemblies that could more reliably withstand high-frequency vibrations during drilling operations, opening new markets, which led to an entirely new portfolio of products that generated over $20 MM per year. US Patent US10006256B2.
- Designed a complete portfolio of next-generation milling tools, including hundreds of Flat, Junk, Piranha, Concave, Inserted, etc. mills, from 2" up to 24", to expand and standardize the product offering.
- Developed a customer-facing iPhone/Android application that lets customers quickly enter their equipment specification needs. The app "Bowen Casing Spear System Calculator" then provides recommendations on equipment selection with calculated equipment specs for the application.
- Generated algorithms to automate calculations and processes, significantly reducing response time for technical inquiries and new product designs.
- Supported the sales and market segment personnel through daily conversations (e.g., opportunity qualification, design of technical solution and determination of value creation, understanding of customer/prospect feedback regarding the solution, support in the development of solution cost) in winning business in a team effort and adding an average monthly revenue of $1-2 MM.
- Utilized SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, ANSYS, Teamcenter PLM, dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y-14.5, Microsoft Visual Basic, and LabView during product design, development, and verification.
- Created and maintained all revision-controlled engineering documentation (e.g., drawings and bills of materials) and all engineering-controlled documents (e.g., O&M manuals, QA sheets, and work instructions).
- Performed detailed analyses of new tools during development and existing tools, including Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS and SolidWorks Simulation) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Developed manufacturing processes by designing equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components as part of the Design for Manufacturing and Assembly methodology (DFMA).
Eaton Corporation
Energy Engineer 2012 – 2013
Performed energy audits (ASHRAE Level I-III) of several American military bases and facilities throughout the U.S. to identify energy conservation and retrofit project opportunities.
Automated energy savings calculations using energy modeling programs, Microsoft Excel Visual Basic, and other proprietary methods.
Georgia Institute of Technology
Graduate Research Assistant 2010 – 2012
Developed a quantifiable method to measure the water consumption for a passenger vehicle's life cycle, including material production, parts production, vehicle production, vehicle use, and vehicle disposal. The Ford Motor Company sponsored the project.
Weatherford International PLC
Design Engineer 2008 – 2010
Designed, developed, and tested components and sub-assemblies of the 7”, 9-5/8”, and 13-3/8” Expandable Liner Hangers from the conceptual phase through field testing as set forth by the project manager.
Assured product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product capabilities; and confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
Generated technical documentation for sales personnel, customers, and publications.
Assisted in developing quality specifications for inspection and testing of manufactured products based on engineering, consumer, and regulatory test standards.
